Brief Description
The Grants Specialist position is created to assist 8 University of Georgia Public Service and Outreach (PSO) units with generating external funds to better serve the citizens of Georgia. This position is crucial given that PSO units generate 70 percent of their operating budgets through external funding sources. The incumbent will help to increase PSO’s ability to compete for larger and more long-term external funding from federal agencies, corporations, and foundations, provide assistance with complex proposal/application development and submission, and provide grant writing assistance as needed.
The incumbent’s role will be to continually search and identify opportunities for funding and match opportunities with PSO work based on an understanding of PSO units’ mission. The Grants Specialist will be knowledgeable of the relevant policies of major federal and non-federal sponsors, handle complex proposal award tasks, and make independent decisions concerning non-narrative content and format of grant proposals. This position will work closely with the Office of the Vice President for PSO senior management team, PSO directors, Development, Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA), and other administrative groups.
